Assignment 7A - Testing the Hypothesis

Helping to reduce the costs associated with youth club soccer

  • Opportunity: The United States trails other countries in youth soccer development because of the costs associated with playing the game. Playing for a club team can require thousands of dollars. My idea is to connect club teams with sponsorship from foreign teams to help reduce membership costs in order to get more kids playing.
    • Who: Youth soccer clubs
    • What: Have high membership costs which deter young talented kids from participating
    • Why: Lack of sponsorship in relation to other sports
  • Testing the who: For a country as developed as the United States, we are the only ones who suffer as extensively from this issue. Although one can argue that there is a general lack of interest in soccer as a sport because of the popularity of sports like football and basketball, research proves that the popularity of soccer has been increasing. The U.S., Mexico and Canada are set to host the 2026 World Cup and many experts hope that the game reaches a breakthrough by then. Thus, it is crucial that we somehow reduce the admission costs of youth club teams so that we may take advantage of the sports peak popularity when the World Cup comes around.
  • Testing the what: There have been efforts to reduce costs by people individually sponsoring players but that is very inefficient. Other efforts have centered around creating academies and new soccer clubs, but those too have branched towards elitism and become expensive.
  • Testing the why: AAU basketball teams and other non-soccer club teams often have Nike or Adidas sponsorship which help reduce membership costs. Admittedly, other sports such as volleyball can be even more expensive than soccer, but the targeted family is middle class and can afford the fees. Soccer is mostly played by minority populations who are usually less wealthy than white populations. Thus, the high membership costs of soccer are even more detrimental to their participation and the sports growth in the U.S.

  • Interview #1: Leg A-Z Soccer Academy
    • I spoke with the manager of the club and his answers were more negative than I expected. He does not share in the general optimism that soccer's popularity in the United States will continue to rise. In fact, he only seems to think that places with a huge Latin America influx such as Florida, would be suitable for investment. He does not see foreign teams as being interested in investing in U.S. teams because of the general lack of development. He told me that soccer clubs are all trying to get investments from major companies and that perhaps aiming my business focus towards incoming foreign businesses would be a better use of my time.
  • Interview #2: Twin Lakes Park Keystone Youth Soccer Club
    • I spoke with one of the coordinators of this soccer club who along with her husband, runs the program. She was not as knowledgeable as my previous interviewee on the macroeconomic concerns of club soccer. She mostly concerned herself with local matters. However, she did raise an important point that in comparison to other clubs, hers was cheaper because it centered around volunteering and not profits. She made a point that general costs could be lower if the people involved with the clubs were more interested in the development of the kids and not their pay.
  • Interview #3: Driftwood Soccer Club
    • I spoke with a coach of one of the youth teams. This is a club with lower prices than most and they reinforce the ideas that I heard from my previous interview. The coaches do not demand high pay, but they perhaps do not treat it as seriously as they can. This brings the question of does increased pay result in increased effort. They are already sponsored for the most part, so then would more sponsorship go toward paying the coaches? And would that increase their participation and commitment to youth development? All of these questions stem from their involvement in other jobs and if they would quit those to focus more on soccer.
  • Interview #4: Orlando City Youth Soccer Club
    • I spoke with a representative from the club since it was late and the higher ranking persons were either busy or not there. This club which sees itself as more of an academy already has several sponsors and high level equipment. Yet their costs remain high and they explain that this is due to the product which they offer. They also offer several scholarships for kids who try out and are talented enough to join the team. I am confused by this program, I could not figure out how a younger underdeveloped soccer player would be able to join the team if they could not afford their costs. My guest is that this type of team would not be the focus of my program, they already have sponsors and aim their efforts towards developed players.
  • Interview #5: Clay County Soccer Club
    • I had to speak with yet another representative because of the same reasons as the last interview. This club is very similar to the previous one. They offer somewhat of the same product and aim their efforts towards developed players. However, this club is located in an affluent community and are therefore not as worried with providing players with financial assistants. This is the type of club which my business would try to help young players bypass. The current system is pay-to-play and this club feeds into that mindset. I did not learn that much from this interview except that this club was sponsored by the areas local businesses. This has then made me think that local sponsorship would not be valuable in the low income areas that talented minority players live in.

What I have learned from the interviews:
Most of the interviews were not very productive in presenting me with any new information. In fact, a lot of the representatives that I spoke with were not very knowledgeable on the opportunities that exist to lower costs and increase the growth of soccer in the U.S. This is expected, the high level people do not have a lot of free time, and who knows if they are truly invested in seeing players succeed. The most informative interview was the first one, although he was very pessimistic, he presented me with a lot of ideas for new sponsor avenues. The next interviews sort of showed me how some of these sponsors are integrated in local teams and how they probably would not work if I tried to implement them in lower income communities.
The main challenge for me now is to figure out what exactly my business plan should be. Should I conduct more professional style interviews with teams and continue exploring the possibility of foreign teams investing into our current system? Or, should I shift my focus to try and get major brands and foreign companies to support the smaller clubs that minority players participate in? If I were to take that route, then my business would essentially be a middle men to negotiate sponsorship deals for smaller clubs. I would then have to research the logistics of this, and see if that would be a profitable venture. Unless I decide to turn it into a non-profit. On the other hand, if I were to continue with the original business idea then I would have to contact small foreign teams and see their level of interest in investing in U.S. based clubs. These are all ideas for how I probably should continue with the idea, and the decision comes down to which one I feel would be most successful.

Assignment 6A - Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

  • Economic Trend: Smaller importers will have to find new manufacturers
    • Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/29/business/pello-bikes-china-tariffs.html
    • I believe this because President Trumps latest tariffs will cause prices to rise even more on imports from China, which could drive a lot of smaller firms out of business. Parts are not as cheaply and readily available in the United States, thus these firms will have to look elsewhere.
    • The prototypical customer would be the firms that are currently observing the market and can see that their importing expenses are increasing. They might have already started to look towards new importing possibilities.
    • This opportunity is definitely hard to exploit because China has been the number one exporter of manufactured goods for a reason. Any business which seeks to replace that, even if it is for smaller firms only, would need to be innovative in its solution.
    • I saw this opportunity because I have recently been paying a lot of attention towards the trade war and it hurts me to see small businesses affected the way they are. Our country's economy is increasingly becoming more focused towards the needs of larger, more monopolistic firms and it goes against everything a free market should stand for.
  • Economic Trend: Rise in pay for tree cutters in California
    • Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/23/business/energy-environment/pge-wildfire-trees.html
    • With the rise of global temperatures due to climate change, wildfires are expected to become even more frequent. California is known to suffer terribly from these wildfires, and now electrical companies are struggling to find people willing to be tree cutters because of the dangers associated with the job. If they want to reduce the danger, then they are going to have to create more benefits for those who may be thinking about doing that job.
    • The prototypical customer would have to be a strong outdoors male or female who is not scared of heights and enjoys thrills and adrenaline rushes. People who are into outdoor activities and exercises, while also accepting that their lives are constantly in danger would be best suited.
    • This opportunity would not be hard to exploit for the right person. The article literally says that electrical companies are having difficulties finding people to perform the job. Thus, a potential employee would simply need to get into physical shape and perhaps negotiate their starting salary.
    • I didn't have much difficulty discovering this opportunity. The article practically stated it and I support workers having more negotiating power so I thought it was only natural that pay rises would happen in this situation.
  • Regulatory Changes: Possibility of lesser expenses for businesses with animals
    • Source: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=APHIS-2017-0062-47066
    • I see an opportunity with this proposed amendment to existing regulations because it states that it will reduce regulatory burden and help licensees more easily comply with the act. Businesses will then no longer need to spend as much time and money ensuring that they are complying with the original act.
    • The prototypical customer would be any business or veterinary services currently working with animals.
    • I think this would be relatively easy to exploit, especially if it were a new animal services starting out. There would be less stringent barriers to entry.
    • I see this opportunity because loosening of regulations is almost always good for businesses, especially ones that deal with compliance and are barriers to entry. A new service would not have to factor in as much expenses when accounting for taking care of the animals.
  • Regulatory Changes: Developing a new insular product
    • Source: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FDA-2019-N-1132-0001
    • I see this as an opportunity because pharmaceutical companies and Corporate America in general have become far too powerful and greedy. They hike up prices with the pretext that its necessary for the businesses to remain functional all the while people are struggling to buy medication and their CEOs amass wealth of a thousand lifetimes. Since the government refuses to regulate prices, then the least they can do is support the development of some new insulin product and increase market competition.
    • The prototypical customer would be any company capable of developing a new insular product. I'm not sure how insulin access currently works, but I know the original developer of insulin sold the patent for $1, so getting access to how to develop a new brand of insulin should not be too difficult.
    • If the FDA were too actually decide to support the development of a new insulin product, then they would probably give some kind of grant to any company that is able to present its idea for it which would help facilitate the completion of the product.
    • I saw this opportunity because I have been following up with the insulin issue to see what our government would decide to do. I read a story about someone who died because they were trying to take smaller doses since insulin prices are so high and I've been furious about the topic since.

Assignment 5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

  • "Boca man, 70, charged with getting 13-year-old pregnant" by Larry Barszewski
    • https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/palm-beach/boca-raton/fl-ne-boca-man-70-gets-girl-13-pregnant-20190528-cimtdntjzfh4nmok5zsq7poaoi-story.html
    • A 13-year-old girl who was taken to a hospital for constipation turned out to be pregnant, and the 70-year-old man who was taking care of her admitted to being the father of the unborn child.
    • People taking sexual advantage of minors has consistently been a problem in our society. These minors are often left with lasting emotional trauma. This issue is difficult to solve because it often comes from people in positions of power who then abuse these non-consenting minors.
    • In this specific case, the girl who was sexually abused clearly suffers most. She will be left with a lifelong emotional trauma that will affect other aspects of her life. Law enforcement officers have problems with this because they have to predators such as the old man in this story. Therapists can also have an issue with this because they are the ones who have to help the victims cope with their emotional trauma. Neighbors of the minors or pedophiles might also have an issue with knowing if these crimes are happening in their neighborhoods and living with the fact that they knew it was happening or that they were friends with such a person. Prosecutors can also have an issue with these situations when it comes to gathering evidence for the trial against predators so that they can make sure they pay for their crimes. Lastly, doctors, nurses and other hospital staff have to piece the situation together and medically take care of the victims.

  • "Man stabs dad to death, wounds stepmom and kills himself" by Larry Barszewski
    • https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fl-ne-north-lauderdale-stabbing-victims-identified-20190528-idpheij5urbxvjimmcqzz4kpj4-story.html
    • A 33-year-old man stabbed his father to death on his lawn, and when his mother tried to stop him he stabbed her too. The mom then ran into the house to call the police, at which point when the man then began to repeatedly stab himself until he bled out and died.
    • Psychologically challenged people walk among us everyday with no therapeutic help and the general population never know when they're gonna snap and take it out on everyone. There also exists the possibility that he was on drugs, bringing about another problem of drug abuse and the consequences.
    • Parents, siblings, spouses, and children of the psychologically challenged or drug abusing people can be subject to their violent reactions. Their coworkers who see them everyday can also unknowing to them, be their next victims. The US mental health system is basically nonexistent so major sections of the population suffer from mental health issues which are never resolved. This can lead to drug abuse, which also factors into the overarching issue.

  • "Snake slithers out of toilet, bites Coral Springs man (on the arm)" by Skyler Swisher
    • https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/coral-springs/fl-ne-coral-springs-snake-attack-20190528-togijbdkvvgspd2nfjptngzsh4-story.html
    • A 52-year-old man was bitten by a non-venomous snake after lifting the toilet seat in his Florida home.
    • People with non-traditional pets are irresponsible, allowing them to escape and enter the homes of random people. Also, it could be that the snake was part of wildlife and simply escaped.
    • The man who got bitten obviously has a problem with this because if the snake was actually venomous then he would have been in serious trouble. Animal control can find an issue with situations like these because it means that people who own these pets are not properly handling them. The owners of these animals can also find it difficult that they have to take care of these animals, as well as insure that they don't go loose and cause harm to random people. There also exists the possibility that the animals might get apprehended and they have to pay a fine or something in order to get it back.

  • "Florida restricts access to mass killing videos" by Skyler Swisher
    • https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/fl-ne-mass-killing-video-exemption-20190523-kwaaxrkfj5bclmh4nkqmmrkhg4-story.html
    • Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill which created a public records exemption of an video showing the deaths of three or more people, not including the perpetrator.
    • Large sections of the Florida public will no longer be able to view video evidence of mass shootings and hold the proper authorities responsible unless they can privately access the video by someone showing it to them.
    • Relatives and friends of the victims of these shootings might find it difficult to trust that all of those who failed to do their job on the day of such a tragedy will be properly held responsible for their roles in letting it happen if the evidence is not made public. As mentioned in the story, defenders of the first amendment might see it as an infringement on their rights and holding those responsible accountable. Other random people who might be curious to see the video for whatever reason might also see it as the government restricting their access to information.

  • "Ride share vehicles carry more germs than a toilet seat. Here's where not to touch." by Cindy Goodman
    • https://www.sun-sentinel.com/health/fl-ne-rideshares-have-germs-20190515-kcwyjooh5zhdhe2vng5vtcvp4a-story.html
    • Insurance company Netquote conducted a study which found that ride share vehicles such as Uber and Lyft carry 35,000 times more germs than a toilet seat, and 219 times more germs than the average taxi cab.
    • Uber and Lyft are becoming increasingly popular and this is valuable information for people who frequently use their services. The story also presented the places in the cars used by those services which had the highest concentration of bacteria; while also making suggestions as to certain precautions which people could take to minimize the risks. There's currently a Hepatitis A outbreak in South Florida and the writer wants to warn people that ride sharing services can be a hotbed for that.
    • People who use these ride-sharing services obviously have the biggest issue with their driver's car having so much bacteria. The drivers themselves spend the most time in these cars and thus can be most consistently exposed to the germs that passengers have brought in. Upon hearing this news, their families might become concerned that they will get sick and also put a halt to their source of income. The corporate teams, and all public traders with a stake in Uber might be concerned about the value of the company if a good portion of their drivers get sick and news of it spreads.

Assignment 4A - Forming an Opportunity Belief

I believe that there is an unmet need in personal planning for college students. Many of the students who have come to UF with high involvement in high school extra-curricular activities do not translate to involvement at the collegiate level. I believe that these students become distracted by their social lives and their newfound freedom, as they no longer have to pursue goals set by their parents. These students then miss important deadlines for organizations and career events, which resurfaces later on in their collegiate life when they have to secure internships and jobs. The need for something like a personal adviser exists because students no longer have parental or scholarly guidance, thus they no longer feel pressure into getting involved. There are also far too many students for academic advisers to handle, so the needs of the students are not fully met. Currently, there are programs, some of which are associated with certain scholarships, that are designed to provide students with collegiate guidance; but it remains that this does not consistently satisfy the needs of the majority of students. I am about 63% sure that this opportunity exists.

#1: 18 year old male student

  • Do you feel like you are now less involved in extra-curricular activities than you were in high school?
    • "Yes because college activities require more time and management of said time, as well as devotion to different activities."
  • Do you feel that you should be more involved with on and off campus organizations than you are now?
    • "Yes because it helps with resume building for graduate school or a job."
  • Would you say that your current lesser involvement is due to the lack of parental oversight or less pressure in general?
    • "Yes, parents serve as reminders and push you to do things you may not be fully invested in."
  • When did you first begin to feel that you weren't being as productive or as involved as you can/could have been?
    • "Whenever I compare myself to some of my peers and how they are involved, which was around the end of the spring semester."
  • How are you trying to rectify the situation so that you can become more involved and productive?
    • "I am conducting research in the summer so that I can join organizations next semester."
  • Do you think this current method is sustainable and successful enough?
    • "If I follow and am dedicated to it yeah."
  • How would you feel about having bi-weekly meetings with a personal adviser who has access to some information about your social and academic life, and uses it to make an involvement plan for you while also pushing you to follow said plan?
    • "If it comes with a reasonable price then I don't see why not."
Reflection: It's going to be hard to get people to sign up for this service when they are not even focused on getting involved to benefit their future selves. A lot of my assumptions about the opportunity are correct, but that does not necessarily mean it will succeed in terms of pricing and getting enough customers.

#2: 18 year old female student

  • Do you feel like you are now less involved in extra-curricular activities than you were in high school?
    • "Yes because I was told that extra-curricular activities would help me get into college."
  • Do you feel that you should be more involved with on and off campus organizations than you are now?
    • "Yes, it would contribute to me living a more well rounded lifestyle."
  • Would you say that your current lesser involvement is due to the lack of parental oversight or less pressure?
    • "My parents were never involved in my academic life, I just started caring less because I don't think it matters as much since I'm already in college."
  • When did you first begin to feel that you weren't being as productive or as involved as you can/could've been?
    • "My first semester."
  • How are you trying to rectify the situation so that you can become more involved and productive?
    • "I got a job and am now going to the gym in the hopes that I can get used to being busy and later join some clubs."
  • Do you think this current method is sustainable and successful enough?
    • "Yeah that's why I'm doing it."
  • How would you feel about having bi-weekly meetings with a personal adviser who has access to some information about your social and academic life, and uses it to make an involvement plan for you while also pushing you to follow said plan?
    • "I would love that, it would push me to work on myself more."
Reflection: The people who I have identified as prototypical customers seem to be naturally inclined to improve their involvement by their own means. The business only seems likely to be focused towards college freshmen, but beyond that they are likely to start improving with little to no help, which means the business might not be sustainable.

#3: 19 year old male student

  • Do you feel like you are now less involved in extra-curricular activities than you were in high school?
    • "Yeah, I lost the motivation because my involvements in high school were because of obligations and not interests. I now need to focus on career based involvements."
  • Do you feel that you should be more involved with on and off campus organizations than you are now?
    • "I mean yeah because its important to build my resume."
  • Would you say that your current lesser involvement is due to the lack of parental oversight or less pressure?
    • "Not as much parental oversight as it is less pressure since people aren't really pushing me to get involved."
  • When did you first begin to feel that you weren't being as productive or as involved as you can/could have been?
    • "End of last year, when I began to see some of friends getting involved with BSU and LDI."
  • How are you trying to rectify the situation so that you can become more involved and productive?
    • "I've been asking around and trying to seek out different organization by seeing what my friends are involved in, and which would be a good startup organization for me."
  • Do you think this current method is sustainable and successful enough?
    • "I do. Again, I can use it as a startup to get more involved."
  • How would you feel about having bi-weekly meetings with a personal adviser who has access to some information about your social and academic life, and uses it to make an involvement plan for you while also pushing you to follow said plan?
    • "I'm not sure about it. On the one hand, it would be nice to have some mentoring; but I want to go at my own pace and do stuff because I want to do it for myself. The mentor should also be someone I know personally and can trust."
Reflection: This confirms my theory that the prototypical customer will eventually be able to naturally find time and activities for involvement. Even if this is sort of a personal planner/mentor, that does not mean people will necessarily mean they will be comfortable with sharing personal information with someone who is going to be watching over them. I feel that this was the most productive interview, it helped me see some of the more interpersonal problems that can come with this idea.

SUMMARY:
The original opportunity is still there but perhaps not as encompassing and long-term as I may have previously thought. I do not think that my opportunity has changed that much from the interactions that I have had, but they have definitely brought some possible issues to my attention. Getting people to sign up for the business, as well as working out the possible interpersonal problems definitely are some things that I would have to work to overcome. Entrepreneurs definitely need to adapt when constructing their business, but they also need to focus so as not to stray from the original business model. The role of an entrepreneur is to make sure that customers remain happy, but demands can sometimes be unreasonable so the entrepreneur has to balance all this to keep the business sustainable.

Assignment 3A - My Entrepreneurship Story

During my senior year of high school, as a recipient of the Take Stock in Children (TSIC) scholarship I attended a graduation ceremony for the TSIC scholars, where I met Mr. Barrington Irving. I was introduced to Mr. Irving by Brian, who was my mentor at the time. Brian did not personally know Mr. Irving, but he took it upon himself to introduce me after Irving delivered the speech he had been called for. In his speech, Mr. Irving talked of how at the age of 23, he became the youngest person to fly solo around the world. Mr. Irving explained that he was able to accomplish this with only $30 in his pockets, as he decided that he would complete the feat using that and any capital he was able to raise. After previously believing that his only avenue out of inner city Miami would be football, Irving was mentored by a Jamaican airline pilot, and he later founded the non-profit Experience Aviation which helped with raising the funds for his travels and eventual lead to the founding of Experience Aviation Learning Center. That company offers STEM-based programs and guidance to middle and high school students in the Miami-Dade area.
Throughout my meeting with him, Mr. Irving continued to reinforce the necessity for connections and perseverance, as he believed that long with passion, those would be the qualities that would foster my success. As I watched him speak, I came to the realization that he truly meant those words. He was a man who achieved success through chance encounters and the pure strength of his will. He was living evidence that the more work you put in, the more likely you are to succeed. Irving was also a man who was able to succeed and then uplift his community through his entrepreneurial work. My mentor told him about my entrepreneurial desires and Irving simply told me to work on something that I saw wrong or was passionate about, and I have held that with me since.

I enrolled in this class because I have always thought it to be my destiny to eventually own a business. I have never even had the faintest idea what the business would be, but I always thought that would be my eventual destination. After meeting Barrington Irving, I decided that I should start developing myself and work towards that goal; yet I was still stuck with the same problem, I didn't know anything about starting a business and even if my Finance degree is to worth anything, it does not necessarily mean that I would succeed as an entrepreneur. After a recent talk with my academic adviser, I learned that I had to take 11 upper elective credits and this class was one of the recommended ones. Thus it feels somewhat destined that I should take this class.
By taking this class, I hope to learn exactly what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur. I know that is something which might not be definitive, but at this point some knowledge is better than no knowledge. I need to know any relevant information on how to think like an entrepreneur and the hardships and daily grind that I should expect and know how to handle. At the very least, this class should be the first step in solidifying my entrepreneurial desires.

Assignment 2A - Bug List

1. Compromising over the temperature of the apartment when you have roommates.
Why it exists: People are comfortable in different temperatures so you have to compromise when you are sharing an apartment with however many people.

2. Little to no buses run in Gainesville on non-school days.
Why it exists: Students don't need to use the buses to go to school when there isn't any, so the city has fewer of them running to save money.

3. Sidewalks on campus aren't conducive to skating or long-boarding for students who skate to class.
Why it exists: The schools\ is not concerned about such a small percentage of the population who use skate/long-boards, so the sidewalks are fine as long as they're usable to pedestrians.

4. Unsanitary bathrooms in certain buildings (CSE), while there are very clean ones in others (Heavener).
Why it exists: Some buildings are newer than others and thus have newer and cleaner bathrooms. Additionally, the departments responsible for the respective buildings each have their own budgets which contribute to how much money is spent on cleaning and maintenance.

5. Not knowing which social spot or club to go to on the weekends based on how populated or empty it might be.
Why it exists: Clubs and bars naturally compete for customers and on certain nights people choose whichever bar/club has a special they like, or whoever they know is already going there.

6. Having to do more laundry over the summer.
Why it exists: Its hotter in the summer and the more time you spend outside in the heat, the more likely you are to sweat and get your clothes dirty, which then means you have to do more laundry.

7. Having to buy new clothes every season (i.e. summer and winter clothing).
Why it exists: After wearing the clothes for a season, next time that season comes around you might feel that the color has faded or that it no longer suits your style; which means you have to purchase new clothes.

8. High monthly food expenses when you don't know how to cook.
Why it exists: Instead of buying ingredients and cooking yourself, you have to buy frozen or prepped meals, which are naturally more expensive because they factor in cooking expenses.

9. Seeing someone waste a machine at the gym by being on their phone as they are using it.
Why it exists: There are a lot of people who go to the gym simply to be there or to tell themselves that they went, but are not actually committed to working out.

10. The time that it takes to make decisions when you are in a big group.
Why it exists: You have to take into account all the opinions of the different members of the group and reconcile them with each other since people will naturally have differing desires.

11. Not knowing what to do when you have had a busy week and then unexpectedly find some free time.
Why it exists: If you plan to mostly do work and then find yourself with free time then you might feel that you should make the best use of it by being productive or finding the most fun activity possible, both of which are unrealistic given the situation.

12. Having multiple assignments due on the same day when you are taking classes over the summer since there is less time.
Why it exists: Classes do not know your schedule nor do they care, so it is up to you as the student to know in advance that you will be busy and to adequately prepare for that.

13. Running out of breakfast foods but not dinner foods.
Why it exists: You cannot perfectly plan how you will eat so naturally you might run out of breakfast foods but still have dinner foods left.

14. Not knowing the best time to post on social media (i.e. posting pictures on Instagram).
Why it exists: People have stuff to do with their lives and no one can perfectly predict when the most amount of people will see your post, thus you can only follow general data on when people will be on the app.

15. Having to physically apply to certain jobs because they don't do online postings or only post "help wanted" signs.
Why it exists: Certain employers would rather meet possible future employees in person in order to get a better sense of who you are.

16. Having to pay for a full screen replacement for your phone when it is getting repaired by Apple.
Why it exists: Apple does not do partial screen repairs because they feel its easier to simply replace the whole screen.

17. Finding a sublease for the summer if you are taking Summer C classes at UF and if you were previously living on campus.
Why it exists: UF Housing only offers Summer A and Summer B contracts separately which means you would have to move to two different locations as you are doing summer classes, which in itself is another annoyance.

18. People not turning on their headlights when its raining heavy.
Why it exists: Most people don't realize that visibility is as bad in heavy rain as it is at night so they don't think to turn on their headlights.

19. Having to fill out the FAFSA application and get physical copies of my parents' tax transcripts.
Why it exists: I can't get the electronic copies of my moms taxes for some reason so I have to request the copies from the IRS. Additionally, I also have to fill out FAFSA every year to get my scholarships and financial aid renewed.

20. Needing a guarantor or security deposit to finish signing the lease of an apartment.
Why it exists: As a young adult with no credit, apartment owners need some guarantee that the rent is going to get paid and that if you damage the apartment that there can be some way for you to pay for the damage.

After that, I realized that they were not completely fleshed out so I continued to get more specific with them as I wrote this blog post. I decided to leave the why it exists to be done after having finished with the listing first. This part was relatively easy to me. This assignment was useful because it made me more cognizant of the minor issues that are part of my daily life.
